Healing Conversation Circles

A healing conversation circle is a gathering of friends and family who, after viewing A Glory from the God want to explore ideas and feelings about the issues raised in the film. It is a time for deeper thought and reflection.

A Glory from the God is being shown to groups in churches, synagogues, schools, women's organizations, business groups, chambers of commerce and living rooms across the country. We hope this documentary will inspire you to talk to one another, an important step in creating a community of global and personal change. It is a chance to support and motivate each other and explore the definition of activism.

Organizing and creating a viewing, even in your own living room with your children and family, offers an opportunity to educate and discover the many ways to express your gifts and skills.

Questions to start the Conversation

At the end of A Glory from the God a remarkable women with tears streaming down her face, stands up and recounts how hearing the stories in the film has forever changed her life. The woman obviously has been touched deeply, perhaps by reflecting on her own story. The healing power of telling our stories is one of the most compelling messages in the film. Storytelling is an ancient tradition that helps form and strengthen bonds, affirms the value of listening and empowers the teller.

  • What touched you most about the woman's tearful response?
  • In speaking to the group of American women about her experiences in Sudan, Gloria says she does not come from people "overwhelmed" by struggle and hardship. How much do you think our past influences how we move and act in the world? How can that help us? How can it hurt us?
  • Can you recall other stories someone has shared with you that have touched your heart? Share one of them? Why do you think they struck you so profoundly?
  • Discuss some of the common struggles shared by the women in the IDP camp in Sudan and marginalized women in this country. What are some of the possible common solutions?

There is healing in listening and bearing witness. By stirring our compassion we become each other's keepers.

The people involved in the A Glory from the God project are all on roads with no road maps. We all have heard a call that set our paths on a journey of common purpose. We never know who we are going to meet or the gifts we will use on the roads we travel. Along the road, we have learned a couple of valuable lessons; we all have something to give and this journey is amazing.
